The Ultimate Jewish Online Course *NEW SESSION*
That’s right. You can take great classes online, learn incredible ideas, and earn $100. Better, you can do that and never leave the house.
The Ultimate Jewish Online Course is a live, engaging, interactive, online experience. Your instructor is a real person—not a prerecorded video or talking head—and you learn deep, relevant Jewish ideas in real time.
The Ultimate Jewish Online Course meets once a week—first class is Tuesday, June 30—and if you complete the program requirements, you earn $100.
What will you learn?
You will learn all sorts of cool stuff like (and if you’re joining us again, don’t worry, it’s all new content):
- The Kosher Laws: a Jewish party in your stomach
- The secret of Jewish meditation and prayer
- Muzzuzah: what and why
- Reclaiming mistranslated and misunderstood Jewish concepts
- And much more (scroll down to see the complete course syllabus)
Are you eligible?
The Ultimate Jewish Online Course is open to Jewish students and recent graduates, ages 18-24.
What do you need to do?
You participate in 6, 1-hour weekly webinars. Each session is live, interactive, and mobile-friendly. You will also need to submit a short essay after each session. See our FAQ for more details.
Registration for our Summer II Session is now closed. Give us your info and we’ll tell you about future programs.
Really? I can earn $100 by doing this?
Yes you can. Your time is valuable. It is not unusual to get paid a stipend or to earn a travel grant to research a specific topic or work in a lab. This is similar.
What time do classes start each week?
Classes start 9 PM Eastern time and end between 10 and 10:30. That isn’t late (no self-respecting college student goes to bed before midnight—you know that). And because this program involves multiple campuses in different time zones, we can’t start any earlier. The program begins on Tuesday June 30, 2020 and runs every Tuesday night until August 4, 2020.
How does it work?
Each week you login to a virtual classroom. Your instructor will be waiting. The other participants will be there as well. You participate and ask questions via chat. You will also answer poll questions, watch videos, take a quiz, and write a short essay each week at the end of each session.
What happens if I miss a session?
Not a problem. You need to be there—live and in person—for at least 5 of the 6 sessions. You are responsible to submit assignments for all 6 sessions. All sessions are recorded and archived.
I don’t get it. Do I watch a video each week? Is the instructor a talking head?
No. Not at all. This program is a live, interactive, engaging experience. Your instructor is live and in real time. You will interact and ask questions. It is just like being in a classroom, except it is online.
What will I learn?
You will explore some of the most important issues concerning the relevance of Judaism in contemporary life. Some examples include the nature of free will, the intersection of faith and science, the Jewish historical experience, and the Jewish secrets of love and dating. Scroll down to the next section to see the full course outline.
What are the requirements I need to fulfill to earn my $100?
You need to participate—live and in person—for at least 5 of the 6 sessions. The sessions you might miss, you make up by watching the recording of that session. After each session, you need to submit a 2 or 3 paragraph essay discussing what you learned (this is the minimum, you can make your essays as long as you want). You will be asked to answer specific quiz questions as well.
If Tuesday nights are not good this summer and you do not think you can show up on time and attend at least 5 of the 6 sessions live and in person, please ask to be put on our list for our next session (there is no penalty for reapplying, we love hearing from you!).
What are the system requirements I need to participate?
We use the Zoom webinar platform. Zoom works on most computers, phones, and mobile platforms. If you do not have Zoom, you’ll be prompted to create an account when you login for the first session. Do it. You will be sent a link to the online classroom a day or two before the first session.
